Coaches Corner

If you are interested in coaching, at any level, for the 2017/18 season, please complete our brief Coaching Application.  The head coaches are set for the 2017/18 travel teams, but if you are interested in serving as an assistant coach, please complete a coaching application and speak to the head coach.  We are also in the process of organizing our coaches for our in house programs, especially Cross Ice Junior, Senior, and Limited Travel.

It is recommended that all interested coaches visit the USA Hockey Coaching Clinic information page to get an overview of the certifications required and to search for a clinic.  All coaches who have not been certified previously must complete a Level 1 certification, complete a background check, and complete the SafeSport training. Visit the Coaching Clinic information page for complete details.

Coaches must enter the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) at Level 1 and must advance to the next level in each successive year up to Level 3.  However, there is an exception.  If a Level 1 coach will still be coaching only at the Mite (8U) level, then that coach can remain at Level 1.  But, if a coach will be coaching at the Squirt level or above, the exception does not apply.  Only 1 level of coaching clinic can be taken per year.

Here are the steps to becoming a USA Hockey certified coach:

  1. Register as an Ice Coach with USA Hockey. (
  2. Attend a Level 1 (or the next level) coaching education clinic by December 31.  For a list and to register, visit the USA Hockey Coaching Clinic information page. (
  3. Complete the online age-specific module.  A link will be provided to you by USA Hockey after completion of the coaching clinic.  The age-specific module will correspond with the exact age group that you plan to coach for the upcoming season (i.e., mites, squirts, peewees, etc)
  4. Complete the USA Hockey SafeSport online training. ( Direct link to SafeSport training course:
  5. Complete a criminal background check by submitting your personal information to the Connecticut Hockey Conference background screening vendor. (
